ALFORD WHEELERS CYCLING CLUB |
|
There has been a cycling club in Alford since the 1890s and there are several Victorian photographs of its members and their machines on display in the clubroom. The club in its present format was formed in 1952 and still has several active founder members, with current membership standing at about 70 ranging in age from 10 to 85yrs. Our aim is to promote and encourage what is recognised to be one of the healthiest and most enjoyable activities you can find. Whether you just want to potter round the lanes or take part in the many different types of competitive events, such as Time Trials, Road Racing, Cyclo Cross, Mountain Biking, Audax, or Track Racing, our club can help and advise you so that you can enjoy them to the full. Our racing members range in age from 12 to 75. We meet on Thursday evenings and our clubroom in Alford opens at 7.00 pm. On the ground floor we have a refreshment bar with tea, coffee, cold drinks and snacks as well as a Snooker Table, Table Tennis, Pool Tables and Darts. On the upper floor we have Weight training equipment, Turbo Trainers, Rollers, and more Table Tennis. From April to September the Thursday evening club opening is preceded by Time Trials of varying lengths and types (you can see these by clicking on the ''CLUB EVENTS' page). Throughout the year Sunday morning club rides leave the club room at 9.30 am; the distances covered and pace of the rides are set on the day depending on who and how many riders turn up, sometimes splitting into different groups to suit various abilities, so don't be afraid to join us; the atmosphere is one of the friendliest you will find in Lincolnshire. If you would like to chat to somebody or find answers to any other questions you may have, click on the ''CONTACTS' page and communicate with us in whatever way is most convenient for you. |
